Motorcycle crash leads to $8 million jury award

At Andrews & Sanders Law Offices, we understand how a devastating roadway crash can affect Georgia residents’ lives through the loss of a livelihood or career. Accidents caused by the negligence and carelessness of another driver can seriously affect you, your family and your finances. A legal action may help the process of healing and recuperation by providing for your medical expenses, lost wages and pain and suffering.

The case of a motorcyclist who suffered severe injuries that cost him his career is an example. The Georgia man filed a lawsuit after incurring severe injuries in a preventable accident caused by a dump truck on Interstate 75. When the truck drove into an orange construction-zone drum, the barrel ricocheted towards the motorcyclist causing him to lose control of his Harley. The crash resulted in a shattered ankle and fractured wrist, which could not heal fast enough for the former U.S. Navy officer to return to his career.

According to FreightWaves, the jury found in favor of the harmed motorcyclist and returned an $8 million verdict to help him recover from his injuries and the loss of his naval career. Reportedly, the chief petty officer spent 23 years building a career in the U.S. Navy. The crash, however, resulted in an early and forced retirement.

Filing a lawsuit is more than a matter of receiving a payout from a jury; the verdict held the dump truck company and its driver liable for damages and negligence. The trucking company is no longer in business and its reckless driver — who also fled the scene of the accident — is most likely no longer able to endanger other motorists on the Peach State’s streets and highways.
